Refuge help ?? black sand and live rocks????
i just ran into to a little problem today. i came home and my front living area was smelling like rotten eggs where my tank is located. tested the water and parameters are perfect... i did almost a full water change but was still smelling rotten eggs.. so i decided to check my refuge. everything appeared to be normal. then i moved one of my live rocks, there i saw my sand bed where the rock once was laying BLACK....... then underneath the rock it was completely black also. i started to check the rest of the live rock i had placed in my refuge, also black underneath.. i had my refuge running for about four months before display tank was fully up and running and it was perfectly fine until today. has anyone seen this before and why would this happen?? keep in mind i dont have any live stock in tank only snails , crabs......
thanks in advance |

Is this a fairly new tank or a matured tank? How long have you had the LR?
