what is this maroon stuff?
I had a frag rack in my tank which got covered with coralline. I removed the frag rack for maybe 6 months and did not clean it off. when i put it back in, a powdery yet solid maroon algae started growing. of course it's spread like a plague, battling coralline and winning in some cases, losing in others. is it a type of coralline?
you can see where i scraped some of it off, which was tough to do just like coralline is. |

I'm not positive what it is but there are many types of coralline algae and judging by where it is located and the hardness it probably is some type of coralline. Has it spread to rocks and substrate pr just on the glass as pictured?

just on the glass, in fact my coralline on my rock is fading when it's growing like mad on the glass/plastic.
i thought it might be a coralline, but it doesn't grow circular like my other coralline, so i wasn't sure. |

Looks like Red coraline. Here's a photo from melev's website:

Sweet, thats some healthy looking coraline algae. I love how deep the purple is, and the edges of the circles look like they are plating up almost like a monti.
I agree with the above statement that it could be another form/color of coraline. I like the look of your tank.
