maxijet 1200 and protein skimmer

I started out with a coralife skimmer and I could never get it set properly. I would either overfill the collection cup or no go high enough to bubble over. Played around with the motor and found it didn't run consistant would slow down and run normal.

I quit using the skimmer and have run a refugium for the past year or so.

Wanted to get the skimmer going again and have it overflow into the refugium. The skimmer size is rated for a 100 gallon tank. I bought a maxijet 1200 to power it. The venturi didn't put out enough bubbles for foaming and seemed like the pump was underpowered.

Is it possible to run a maxijet on the skimmer?

Probably not with the supplied venturi. Try placing a piece of airline at the input of pump as close to the impeller as possible, pinch it and slide into one of the three gaps in cover. Now the pump will draw air at the input and chop the bubbles.
