I'm a huge fan of the shimmer effect as well. Some may say the corals don't need it, and I believe that. However, I don't need corals at all. I do it because I enjoy looking at the tank, and I enjoy the shimmering effect. I think it adds alot, especially to those who aren't familiar with it.
At the same time, I currently have MH bulbs, I do hate the fact that I may need to buy a chiller in the near future. If I already had T5s, I'm not sure I'd switch to MH bulbs. |

L98-Z How many halides are you running on your 180g tank? And at what wattage each?

I'm planning to convert to a 300 gallon in the near future, and I'll begin running (4) 250W metal halides and (4) 48" T-5s. |

the colours really come out with the right T5 bulb choices and run cooler than MH. add leds for shimmer.

I have a nice color combination recommended by GrimReefer (I think thats his name) But I just cant find any LEDs that will help provide shimmer... Except for Powerbrites.. But I would need like 8

those leds dont really run that much if you arent looking for the ones that are replacing MH lighting. I heard about the power bright and i am debating in checking those out

Yeah I've heard of the powerbrite as well... Im thinking of getting 3 of them... and seeing if I need any more from there... The thing is.. I'm just looking at it cost wise as well.
3 would be around 150$ (not including shipping). But I have found that it would probably be cheaper this way because buying a new fixture ALSO means buying bulbs (I didnt think about it before) and MH bulbs are more expensive than I thought.
