I have a little problem.

Well, today apparantly my heater broke in half. I just took it out of my sump about 5 minutes ago. Is there anything harmful in the heater that could have got into my water?

I will only use titianum tubes or stealth plastic case heaters for this reason. I would do a good size water change to be safe. See if your LFS has any polyfilter. That stuff will pull out alot of contaminents pretty quick.

Im not sure how it broke actually, but the way I found out was actually scary. I kept hearing a pop, I thought my little 3 watt led lights were breaking, but that wasnt it cause they were all on fine. Then I thought my pump was low on water so I added a little water, the popping continued. Then in the water, I saw a giant flash of electricity. At this point I unplugged the whole system from the main cord, and pulled my pump out, thinking that was what made that flash. The pump was fine so I figured Id check my heater, and sure enough, the heater was in half. It was really scary seeing a giant white flash in a sump full of water though. Especially since I have almost died once from electricity with water washing my dog in the past. Oh well, Id better not see water near electricity again, that would probably do me in. Third times a charm, lol....

What heater doesnt use glass? I especially avoided a glass thermometer for this reason, and it happend with the hearter lol..

Heaters normally fail in the control mechanism, and usually in the on position. If you want to sleep well, get a Ranco controller with a Titanium heater.
