Magnavore Simplicity Chemical Reactor?

Has anyone used this reactor before? I am thinking of using two in my sump, one for phosphate removal and one with carbon. Also I am looking at Seachem's media. Anyone have experience with these? Or do you have any suggestions? Thanks.

I say a canister like eheim would be a better choice and not a gimmick item quality through out and never once a breakdown or problem. Ni ce for media and you will be pleased with the quality . I have them in operation for 20 yrs plus and still a great deal

I thought about that also. I didnt think the magnavore was a gimmick I thought it was similar to a two little fishes or a kent reactor. Or is it not the same as those?

I've never used one, but I'm thinking about it. It is supposed to be similar to the other fluidized reactors with a couple exceptions. One, you can't see the media, so you have to be careful about too much flow or media that is too soft. Second, the reactor has 300 micron top and bottom screens to keep the media in place. The best part about that is that you can load the filter, assemble it, and then rinse it under running water to get rid of dust. You can't do that with the others.

Let me know what you think when you get one. Or have you used the traditional reactors? Do you have any preferences on those?

I had one and like it alot. I was looking for something that would stay completely inside my sump so I wouldn't have to worry about leaks whatsoever. It worked very very well and I have purchased another for my next build. I do recommend it.

There are a few negatives. It has a very fat footprint. Removing the container from the housing to clean it out takes ALOT of force... I'm not that strong and I eventually snapped off both grip tabs trying to remove it every month. The suction cups must grip a solid surface (i.e. glass or acrylic). The biggest negative is you can't see inside.

I got one too. I lift weights 4X per week so didn't have problem with it. The canister is not a gimmick I think original poster was referring to eheim bio filters. I think the TLF filter is closer to a gimmick.

I run GFO and carbon in same reactor with mesh screens. Holds plenty of media. 10 watt 1/2" pump is all it needs. I just replace carbon every 2-3 weeks.

I got a free upgrade to a newer unit with 3 UV LED's run by a 15v DC transformer. I was wondering if that was a gimmick though and was searching for opinions of that. I wouldn't have bought it but was thinking of using it. 3 light a glanced at were dim but functioning.
