coral bleaching
Picked up a acro the other day and didnt realize that it began bleaching in the LFS tank before taking it home. The acro in the LFS was near the surface so I thought maybe they placed it way to high. The top looks fine and healthy and all but it seems to be spreading upward.. I have the coral on the sand bed approx 24-26" from the lights/surface hoping that it will re heal. Is the bleaching going to continue to spread? I have other acros and corals that are doing fine.
Water parameters as of yesterday: Calcium= 450 Mag =1150 (added some to boost a bit since it was a tad low) alk = 4.5 pH =8.2 Ammonia = 0ppm Nitrite = 0ppm Nitrate = 0ppm phos = 0ppm

Is it bleaching or is the tissue receding?

Either way the only way to save it would be to frag off the
undamaged portion otherwise it is highly likely you will lose the lot. |

If it is turning white very fast like 1-2 days then its RTN. Frag as much as you can to save it. If its bleaching then it should recover.

If it is actually bleaching, lower it in your tank. Did you acclimate to your lighting?
If it simply bleaching, it should be pretty easy to save it, no need to frag it. However if it is losing tissue, then that is a whole different issue, you will need to frag; it does sound like RTN, as you said from the bottom up. |
