Vodka Dosing: 0 PO4 20 NO3
In reefkeeping's vodka dosing article, they mention that the bacteria need BOTH Nitrate and Phosphate to grow. My dillemma is that I was using GFO to keep phosphates low before starting vodka. Could this be why it's taking forever to drop nitrates? If so, what can I do about this?
Also, I've heard people mention that the bacteria cultured by vodka use C, N, and P in the ratio 106:16:1 (or something like that). I believe billsreef commented on this in the NeoZeo thread, basically saying that we cannot assume that bacteria will use these elements in these specific ratios. I agree with that and therefore haven't experimented with adding P to help drop N. |

Mods: Can you move this to the advanced topic or reef chem forum?
