Heating
What is the rule of thumb when it comes to heating a tank? I have a 120 gallon tank. I know that I should get 2 heaters but what is the recommended total watts for a 120 gallon?

I'd buy one 300 watt heater and hope it doesn't take a dump one day. I can unplug my heaters in the summertime. A few months at least. 78-86. It gets hot around here. Ambient.

I have two 150 watt heaters and they work well for me. If they get stuck, it's usually in the on position and it will take a lot longer for 150 watts to overheat the tank than 300

You should always run heaters (and fans or coolers) on a ranco dual state controller. Heaters, when they fail, are usually in the control mechanism and they fail in the on position.
