what silicone is appropriate ?
I am looking at purchasing a 5 or 6 ft tank. I was told that Dow Corning 795 silicone are not suitable for aquarium. It is not meant for prolong underwater purposes. Is it true ? Also, is 16 mm thick glass tough enough for a 5 or 6 ft tank ? Thanks

First off:
To Reef Central As far as silicone it seems the overwhelming choice is GE silicone found and home depot or lowes. Just make sure you get the one WITHOUT mold/mildew resistance. 16mm is plenty thick enough.

The GE Silicone #1 will cost you 1/2 of what you will pay for silicone at your LFS. Unless you just want to donate money to your LFS, or need a color you can't find at Home Depot or Lowes, go with the GE #1 (NOT GE #2 !!!).
