Nerite Snails

Does anyone have experience with these critters? I found some for a good price via powerbuy and I am wondering how good of a cleaner they are.

I wasn't impressed with their cleaning ability. Also, they leave annoying white spots on the glass (eggs or poop I don't know) that are somewhat difficult to scrape off. I like astreas a lot better for glass cleaning.

I've got a few in my 20 gallon right now. They do about as good a job as the trochus and turbo's IME. The only problem I've had with them is that they have clogged my U-tube a few times. Extremely mobile snails.

Here's a good article.

I have used them with little to no problem except the eggs on the glass they also as they die off thier shells make good hermit homes.

I have heard that they are OK cleaners. I personally like the cerith snails better. The Nerite eggs on the glass are good food for corals. I can't stand to look at them tho.

I've got a bunch but the only real complaints I have is if they fall (or you bump them off the glass while cleaning it) they ALWAYS land upside down. This ALWAYS invites my hermits to come and get them.

Other than that, they clean ok, look good and seem to do a decent job.

I kept finding mine crawling out of the tank and on the floor. After a while, no more nerites . . .
