Babies are hatching!!!!!!!!

Well our clown eggs are starting to hatch tonight and we are trying to scoop them out. It was a poor clutch of eggs as I had disturbed the clowns the day they were supposed to lay and most of the eggs didn't stick to the rock. This will be my first attempt at raising the fry but we will see what happens. We have only caught five so far. Oh well will see how it goes.

Are you luring them to the top with a flashlight? Should make catching them much easier.

Do you have live rotifers ? If not, you can always try to raise the next batch of clownfish larvae. Good luck.

Yes I have live rotifers. I am trying to lure them but I am not seeing any more. On our previous hatches they have hatched over two nights so maybe we won't get any more tonight.

I hope you have better luck tomorrow night then! If not, there's always next time. And no matter what, you still got 5 tonight!

scottwhitson, you should make yourself a DIY larvae snagger. Or get the clowns to lay their eggs on a removable tile.

I tried the tile business and that is what disturbed them, I didn't get back in town from work until the day they were ging to lay and tried puttiing the tile in there and it disturbed them and they laid in a different place. The tile is staying in there now and hopefully they go back to laying in the spot that they used to.

I have read about the larvae snagger in Joyce's book. Does anyone else have any ideas on how to make one??

Well the five that we had have already died. I don't know exactly what happened. The temp was at 81.2 Nitrates and Nitrites 0. PH 7.9 We used water from the parent tank when we moved the fry. I hadn't fed because it was dark when we transfered them. They only had about 3 hours of light from a nearby window this morning before I found them dead. Any ideas?

Click on my "red house". On pages 3 and 4 I tell how I built mine.

Thanks for the link to your thread. I will have to make one of these as my wife and I both work nights and can't be around to net the fry. We missed out on all of this hatch. Better luck next time.
