i just got a green BTA around 5inches in diameter. What and how often should i feed it? I forgot to get food at the LFS so will cocktail shrimp work for now? I have CF's so do i have to feed it more frequently? Also got a crab on it

I feed mine Sally's Whole Krill (2 to 3 times a week). I pinch a small section off and thaw in a small bowl with tank water...then use a turkey baster to give it to the BTA. Experiment with different things. Mine, for instance, does not like silversides. It would just hold 'em and eventually a shrimp would come and steal it. The krill cubes didn't work either...would hold 'em and Juanita and Cyrano (clownfish pair) would come and eat it.

Just feed it some mysis shrimp with a turkey baster. It'll stick right to it's tentacles. As long as your feeding the tank regularly for other fish, there is really no need to feed the BTA directly. It will increase in size very quickly if fed regularly & you'll likely find it'll get too large for the 29.

I stopped regular feedings months ago because mine went from about a 4"-5" spread to about a foot in the matter of three months.

True that...grows very quickly with direct feedings.

It does not need to be fed directly. I only do about once every two or three weeks & it seems very healthy.

I personally feed mine every day with a turkey baster when i feed my fish. I defrost a few cubes of mysis/brine shrimp in a measuring cup and squirt a little into the anemone. The darn thing grows quick and splits that way, even though it'll be fine without a direct feeding.

i have bad lights that most people recommend not to have with a anemone. they said it would slowly shrink to nothing. would feeding it extra make it grow faster and than the shrinking would cancel out the fast and it would just stay the same?

I wouldn't think so. You'll probably need to upgrade your lights or remove the GTA eventually...both are which a hassle, huh?

Remove the bta and get better lights. Why would you get it anyways after people say that your lighting isn't enough?

I fed mine silversides but eventually removed it because it got so huge and kept splitting. They sting everything near it so I hope you don't like coral.

I feed mine bay scallops from the seafood section on my local food store and mine love it. But you really need to get a better lighting system. At the least you need to be at T-5 lighting or better.

im upgrading in a couple months. you can keep an anemone with PC's. you dont need MH's or T5's. Ive heard of somone who had the same lights (never even switched the bulb.) of PC's for 5 years and his bta lived through the whole thing

if you Nem is not in the greatest shape due to lighting issues etcetra then it may help to feed meat only and not bones or shell that have to be evacuated. Raw shrimp or scallops, shelled krill, really anything meaty. You can keep BTA under PC with enough of them. It doesn't matter where the PAR comes from, as long as you get enough PAR. I would not try a nem under PC though unless it is a relatively shallow tank. JMO
