New Trumpet Coral Frag

I just got a 3 headed green trumpet coral frag for $15 from my LFS today. I think they might have misplaced it on the $15 rack because they are usually like 20-30 for 2 heads. Anyway I have a 40g breeder with a 2 x 150w sunpod fixture and was wondering if placement on the sand would be low enough as I have read that they can be sensitive to MH lighting. It was under hallides in the LFS (400w I believe) but they are also a solid 4 ft off the surface of the water.

Mine seem handle light pretty well, but IMO they definitely don't require it... and it should be fine on the sand bed. Also, mounting it to a hard surface and spot feeding once or twice a week seemed to really jump started the growth on my original frag.

What exactly were you spot feeding it with? When I put the coral in I needed to feed my fish with frozen brine shrimp (the cube kind) and I saw one of the heads nab a piece and eat it, but it seemed like those could be a little big for the heads right now. Should I blend up brine shrimp and put it into a syringe for spot feeding?

They take larger pieces of mysis or brine. I feed a mix of foods to my tank, but spot feed the individual heads with a turkey baster.

3 heads for $15 is right. they usually go $5 a head

They can open up and eat fairly large pieces of food that you wouldn't think they'd be able to.
