Question re: Using predrilled holes for drain - DURSO

I have a 90G Oceanic tank that was predrilled with a 1 inch drain and a 3/4 inch return line. Currently, I have a durso pipe for the drain to silence the overflow and it works great.

In order to increase flow (and safety for clogged drain), I want to make both holes a drain and have a return manifold up and over the back.

My question is what are my options as far as the Durso or other method. I dont believe there is enough room for 2 Dursos, and Im not even sure if, from a physics standpoint, that would be possible. The drain goes to a sump that is outside so any noise related to when the water enters the sump is irrelevant. I am only concerned about the gurgling or what not that one can hear in the overflow chamber.

It can work.

A Local Fish Shop had a 300 gallon tank. There were actually three holes drilled for the over flow.

They just used open ended pipes.

I installed two durso's and left the third for an emergency overflow.

And that may a better solution.

Use one durso and tune it so the water level is lower that just a straight pipe emergency overflow.

I have an emergency overflow tube in each overflow with Durso. I learned a long time ago that redundancy and back ups are crucial to maintaining one's sanity in this crazy hobby!

so if I understand correctly, just keep the durso I have Now and then just stick a pipe in the 3/4 hole and have it stick up higher than the durso?

so in effect, no additional drainage will take place - just an emergency hole. I got no probs with that just wanted to make sure I understood fully...

yep, that's the ticket. If the durso were to clog, you'd have a safety outlet.
