Hiring the right CUC!
I have been reading some articles on the CUC...just researching a little more before I start adding livestock once my tank has settled in.
Is it ok to have any crabs or lobsters in a reef tank? I don't want any CUC that I will have to remove later. I was thinking some turbo snails, Emerald Crabs and some other stuff... |

I tend to stay away from the lobsters and crabs. Maybe one or two rogue hermits, that's about it. A good mixture of snails is probably your best bet

I made a mistake by putting a purple reef lobster in my tank. He killed both shrimp I had, and a couple fish. Turbo snails do a great job, but they fall over really easily. Scarlet reef hermits are probably the best hermits to get, since they don't cause a lot of problems.

Lobsters are mean!! A couple emerald crabs are good tank mates, I have Astreas, Cerith’s and nassarius snails in my tank and they do a great job along with the emerald crabs. I don't like turbo because they seem to knock rock over, I tend to stay away from hermits because they are opportunist and when they see a snail upside down the devour it. (I don't like buying snails just for the hermits to eat them)

I agree. My lobster would see one of my snails and stick his claw at their eyes for an unknown reason. So lobster has killed some of your shrimp ? This is a perfect solution to my missing Scarlet and Pep Shrimp.
