sand in sump?

in my tank i have sand in the sump/fuge. and every week i get a lot of debre in the bottem of the sump. like how do i get rid of this problem. i do water changes and clean the bottem of the sump every week

Put CUC in the sump too honestly your sump should be collecting the waste from your tank that your CUC doesn't process before it hits the overflow.

is it wise to put a clean up crew in the sump? or will they die?

They won't die, there's plenty for them to eat, however depending on your set up, be careful with snails in the sump just for the fact that they may get caught in the return. as long as you create some sort of barrier that the snails can't get around you should be fine

I personally feel you are best off with a bare bottom sump that is cleaned periodically to remove detritus. A clean sump is a happy sump.

I use small guys in the sump but my sump is only a 20 long with 3 chambers so there isn't room for larger hermits IMO. If you have a large sump I don't see why you couldn't keep a larger hermit, a poor tempered crab like my friend does (plays well with no one) or even a single agressive fish like a damsel (will eat fish food that finds it's way down the overflow).

My sump is also a BB. But i do have a refugium chamber with a DSB, liverock and chaeto.
