Live rock
Hello all.
I have a friend that has a tank with alot of live rock, but it has just been sitting in the tank for probably years. There are no fish or invertes or anything alive in the tank. It has some nice growth on it but also alot of algea. Water look very clean aswell. All the rock was offered to me but I wanted to know if it was safe to put it in my tank? Thanks |

A lot of algae?
Like hair algae? Seems to me that if there was nothing in the tank,no nitrates, phosphates being added this algae should not be there. I run a test on the water for these 2 parameters just to see if the tank is saturated with phosphates. If this is the case you would have an ongoing algae problem for a very long time as phosphates can leach from the LR into the water.
