Lighting ?

will a 175w hamilton mag ballast run a 150w HQI bulb?

I have 175w ballasts but having a hard time finding 175w HQI bulbs except the ones on Ebay....$40 for 2.

Next ?:

will a 150w HQI bulb fit in 250w HQI sockets?

NO- hqi's need to be ran on a hqi or electronic ballest. I also run a duel 175w hamilton mag. ballest. Do yourself a favor and stay away from e-bay bulbs. Their alot of good bulbs w/o having to spend a fortune or having to get hqi.

depends on what color you are looking for - from blue to white to yellow. you ultimately want the best par value for the type of bulb/color you are looking for. do you supplement with actinic?

personally I don't use HQI but if I did I would go with Aqualine or Giesemann, which are both high end bulbs. Xm's or ushio for somthing a bit cheaper. It really depends on what your trying to achieve, color, intensity, etc.. will you be using actnics?-Scott
