Whats your oldest most reliable piece of reefing equipment?
Many things don't seem to last that long in the hobby, but we pay a great deal for them. What are you fave and most reliable purchases over the years, I wonder if we can get a consensus on various things.
My best most reliable buys have been. 1. Tunze osmolator (pump changed once had it for nearly 3 years). 2. An ocean runner 2500 on one of my tanks 3 years. 3. grotech doser had for 2 years and I expect many more. I have two vortechs but only for a year so cant really comment. thanks for any input.

Interesting - my osmolator is NOT on my list...
-power supply died -pump died twice (and those disconnect screws were rusted shut so I had to rewire it -optical sensor gets buildup on it and fails more often than a float switch -no mounting options for the control unit - my double stick carpet tape finally failed and the thing fell into my sump and got toasted. Other than that, I've got some maxijets and magdrives that I've had since getting into the hobby 6 years ago.

Sper Scientific Refractometer. Best purchase ever.
Second place would be my euroreef 12-1 skimmer. My litermeter would have been tops on the list, but it finally broke last week! |

Oddly enough, one of the oldest ( I actually don't have it anymore ), most reliable pieces of equipment I've had was a $7 heater that I bought at a LFS. That thing was rock solid.
When I got scared that the el cheapo heater was going to fail, and crash my tank, I bought a new, fancy heater. The new heater had a faulty thermostat, and crashed my tank. Go figure. So I went back to old reliable until I upgraded tanks.

MaxiJet 1200 powerhead. Came in a skimmer, used in a reactor, and now is my salt mixing pump. Been dropped (repeatedly), run dry, not cleaned for years and it simply refuses to die. I think I bought it in 1999 or 2000.

My eyes still have the original lenses.
Eheim canister filter 10+ years probabaly just needed a new wheel. Aqua clear filters some have been used 10+ years. Mag 12 since 1999. I have some tanks that are 20+ years old too. One is a goldfish tank for my daughter now and the other is my sump. Ebo Jaber heater is as old as the tanks as well. |

My LifeReef overflow box is 7+ years old and working great --- granted no moving parts.
![]() I have a 7+ year old Poseidon/Velocity T2 pump that is still running great and as silent as the day I bought it. My Hamilton MH/PC fixture is at least 8 years old. I did change out the ballast last summer, but only because I wanted 2*250 watts instead of 2*175 -- the old ballast was still running great, and the PC ballast is still the same, and never given me a moments trouble.

Come to think of it... I have an old Marineland Eclipse setup - 37g with the filtration built into the hood. I've had that about 10 years now, tank and filter system still running great.

LOL, we already have two RIO pumps and a cpr overflow in this thread, both with terrible reputations. For the record I have one of each and while neither have ever failed I have had to clean out the suction nipple on the overflow. Intelligently or by accident the return section of my sump is small enough that the tank won't overflow if the cpr were to fail.

You know what the bad part of this thread is, that when you say that this piece of equipment has been with me "x" amount of years without troubles then that is when trouble comes a knocking, knock on wood, lol

Everybody is going to think I am crazy, but its my RIO 3100 return pump. I have had it running for 3 years straight. I only cleaned it twice and it still runs like a champ. And it wasn't very expensive.
