Snails or hermits ?

Its probably been asked a hundred times in different ways i guess.

I have a 1000ltr reef tank with sump. Mostly live rock and hard corals. Crushed coral sand. Only 3 fish as i want to stock the corals up first.

I have been running it for over a year with no clean up crew. Actually, it still looks pretty good considering.

I am starting to get green hair algea and the sand is starting to clogg up a little.

Which are best ? Snails or hermits ?..... i don't really want both as i know the hermits can eat the snails.

well id say snails do more work but its also good to have a variety with snails and the hermits- the blue legs stay sort of small so as long as you have shells in there and there eating food they wont touch the snails.

Thanks.......

Now, ive noticed on different marine forums the answer to my next question differs dramaticly....

Some people say "one snail per gallon" while others say "no limits".

as a basic rule, so they dont starve to death "30 or more ? in 1000lts ?"
