did a search on the site cant find the answers
so ill ask on new thread

what should the qt consist of?

should there any med in water at all time or only add when adding a new fish?

as im aware copper based med is most ideal but if the tank was have copper what about coral dip? will it harm corals

how long should fish be qt for?

Your QT can be as elaborate as an exact replica of your DT (although almost no one does this) or it can be as simple as an empty tank with a sponge filter and a powerhead for some water movement. Don't put any live rock or sand in there unless you plan on cycling the QT and keeping it running. Many choose to run a barebones hybrid system that can be torn down and set back up quickly. If you use a sponge filter, when your not using your QT you can just run it in the sump of your DT so you always have it ready when you need it.

Now, onto copper. It is used to treat ich and if you are ever going to put a coral or any invertebrate even near your QT don't use it. A better way to treat ich is by hyposalinity where you lower the SG down to 1.008 and let it stay that way for about 3 weeks. Do a search on treating ich with hyposalinity.

Coral dip is a must be you'll want to do that in a bucket or container as soon as you bring the coral home. I use a product called ReVive, it basically kills off any living thing on there and is mainly used to target red bugs. Most people choose not to QT coral and only dip them and put them in the DT because of the expense of having to have 2 sets of lights.

Your fish should stay in QT up to 4 weeks or longer if they have a disease. But use your judgement on this one. If they look good in a couple weeks and you feel comfortable switching them over then go ahead. As long as you leave them in QT make sure you constantly monitor the ammonia levels as you will probably have to do multiple water changes every couple of days depending on the size of your QT.

was thinking of leaving the qt permanent besides my sump (roughly 10g, another tank basicly)

but after reading ur post tear down is a better opt.

till now i havent dipped corals ill look more into that
same goes with the copper

I have a 12g nano I have thought of useing as a QT... Any comments? How long should ya keep corals in qt after a dip?
