water changes

I was wondering if people ever do water changes with the water outside in the vending machine? it claims RO,carbon,uv, and one other. is this bad to use for my reef?

Its better than tap water...

Not as good as getting an RODI unit for around $170 and making your own water. It pays for itself pretty quickly.

I wouldn't do a water change with fresh water.

I wouldn't trust those machines. Go to Bulk Reef Supply and get one of their RO/DI systems. Great deal , and a great unit..

Your best to use RO/DI water. You can get a good one from The filter guys or BRS for around $199.00. If you can afford it, its your best bet. It will pay for its self in less then a year.

If not....use Distilled water from the store.

If my math is correct...

A 60 gallon tank....20% water changes every 2 weeks will be 12 gallons....at aprox .80 cents a gallon for Distilled water....thats about $10.00 per water change.

26 water changes in a year.....thats $260.00 a year.

Now add 3 gallons a week for top off water...thats another $125.00

Thats a total of $385.00.......for 1 year

If you can get a RO/DI unit for $199.00 trom the filter guys.......Or the RO/DI unit on sale from BRS for $159.00

I'm not sure what more there is to think about......Its a no Brainer
