Can I culture my own phyto from a bottle of DT's?

I have read that you can, but I'll let someone chime in that has done it.

Yes. I have has good success with it. I do about 20ml DT to 20oz SW for the first culture.

Yes you can, but DT's is a mixture of strains. Also, dependin on the treatment and age of the bottle you start it from (Is it old? Did it get warmed up? etc) effects the survivability of the culture in the bottle, thus reducing your chance of success. If successful, only one strain of phyto will prevail and it will eventually be a monoculture of that strain. I, with the help of others, managed to successfully procure Phaedactylum from a DT's bottle. It was a great addition to my reef tank in conjunction with my other strains I had going.
