New Guy says Hi

Hi! My name is John and I'm brand new to reef keeping. This last month I've been setting up a 100 gal. reef tank with the help of my new friend (who I seem to happily give all my free $ to lately) at Fish Haven. I'm 44yrs. old and live in San Diego,Ca. I just joined this site this week. Looking forward to learning about what has quickly become an obsession.

Hey John! Don't worry, I'm still a beginner too.. And I tell you what.. IN the beginning it was just going to be a small nano tank... now I'm setting up a 90g and building my own stand!

CrazY!

Welcome To Reef Central.
Although expensive, it's a hell of a hobby that quickly becomes an addiction. I guarantee you will be sitting in front of the tank even while it cycles and just watching for random things for hours on end. Then you'll see the smallest little thing move and freak out with excitement. OF COURSE that's not what happened to me :rolleyes1:

Yup, I'm fairly new to this forum as well. Im in the Navy serving as a missile technician which involves me going out to see on a submarine. I have a 54 corner reef which has been established for about 6 years now. I guess my biggest challenge is my wife taking care of the tank while im out to sea. But she does a very good job. Soooo hi everyone!

new to reefing and reef central

Hi Guys,

My name is Keaton, I started to set up a tank last week after reading alot of info on various sites. I made a diy 1.5 gal glass tank hand made with built in overflow. about 8"w X 11"L X 8"H. The actual tank is 8X8 with a 3" compartment overflow where pumps, heater, and filters are. I have a 9" aquamini light hood with compact lighting including 10k and actinic bulbs. have about 100 gal/hr flow using 2 60 gal/hr pumps. 7 1/2 watt heater. Have about 4lbs live rock and 2lbs live sand(about 1 1/2 inch substrate). Currently seen hitchhikers 2 hermit crabs, 1 snail, 1 bristle worm, 1 aiptasia anemone (dealt with using a lighter). I think that's about it for the tank.

For myself i'm a pipefitter. Have many interests one of which is to learn new things everyday. I live in Mobile, Al. And I hope all of you have a great day.

Hey John! Welcome to RC...nice choice on a starter tank. So many people myself included start with nanos and end up spending more money upgrading than they would have in the beginning. You made a wise choice. Can't wait to hear more from ya as you progress.
