Skimmer problems
I have a prizm protien skimmer that doesn't appear to be pulling anything out of the water. It is however putting a TON of microbubbles back into my tank.
I'm not sure if this is normal as I've checked and rechecked the water, salinity, ammonia, nitrites and so on. All appear good. Can anyone give me any ideas as to what may be going wrong? I currently have about 12-15 lbs of live rock as well as 2 very small filter crabs and sand in the aquarium. Thanks |

I think it is because you have nothing in your tank for it to skim out. Once you get a heavier bio-load and even a new skimmer you'll see a difference. Hope that helps, Wiz

How long has the skimmer been running. Some take quite a long time to break in. By that I mean getting the slime coat built up on the inside. Once that is established, your microbubbles should go away. As far as not skimming, Fish wiz covered that.

Thanks guys!
The skimmer has been running for a week. It seems that the microbubbles are becoming larger. This is the skimmer the fish store guys recommended, but I've been reading some pretty bad reviews on the Prizm and I'm just about ready to take it back to the store.

.Also, my live rocks are looking a little more greenish then they did when I put them in. Is this normal? I'm pretty new to SW.

I luckily am still able to return it if I need to. Is there a protien skimmer you would recommend?
