Octopus NWB 200 Vs. Extreme 200

are you paying the extra money for the Octopus Extreme for the energy efficiency? i'm looking to buy either one but energy effeciency isn't my main concern. does any one know if their skimming performance is the same?

the octpus extreme has a muh better design and a muuuch better pump on it. the extreme uses less restrictive plumbing on it, the nw has small size plumbing on it. also jeff over at msx told me the new funnel neck design is crap on the new nws or dnws
i have a recirculating 150 and i wish i had gotten the extreme, but i need a external skimmer

funnel neck crap? you are not referring to the cone transition neck right? that is what most of them are moving too, and i love my cone transition on my octo extreme 250. if you are referring to the flimsy black funnel thing, yea they are junk. but, again, coralvue is phasing them out.

tpenn187, which "funnel Neck Crap" are you referring too? do they put a funnel neck on the new octo extreme 200?

what about the recirculating octopus 200? which of the tree you think would be the best investment?

I ordered the extreme 160 and ATB PPW separately, will receive this Fri. Did you go through any kind of performance or noise break-in period w/ the PPW installed or was it performing well and running quietly from the beginning? TIA.

mkay, first off, dont get the octopus extreme 200, get the SWC/MSX extreme 200, they innovated this exact design, and do a much better job of modding the sicce psk2500 pump that comes with it.
The SWC extreme 200 is probably twice the power of the regular octopus nw-200, no comparison in that area, also, the OTP pump that comes with the regular octo nw-200 is not anywhere near the quality of the sicce that comes with the extreme.

so, in a nutshell,
the octopus nw-200 (2009 version) $234 for about 700lph of air @ about 50-60 watts with crappy chinese pump,

and the SWC/MSX extreme 200 is $289 for 1000-1300lph of air @ 30 watts with nice italian pump.
so, $55 more gets you almost double the skimming power(with mesh wheel impeller), almost half the power consumtion, and better design/build quality with the SWC extreme 200.

well, i dont think its the funnel neck transition that is bad, but jeff said something they did with the neck screwed the design of the skimmer up. i didnt fully understand what he was saying but i dunno.

skimmy, arent the swc/msx and octo extreme the same skimmers? i know the bodys are made by the same company.

yes the extremes/msx are MUCH better than the reg octos. the octo pump sucks. if i could have gone insump i would have been all over an msx. jeff, i need a msx RECIRC!!!!!!!

o ya 50-60 watts on the 200?? my 150 recirc is at 84 watts!!!

If your 150 recirc is pulling 84w you have a major prob with that pump.
