If it is a small sump 10-30 gallons I would go with a Mag 5- Mag 7. If it is a large sump 30+ gallons I would go with the ehiem.

Sorry to hijack this thread but whats everyones thoughts on buying a bigger pump like the 1262 instead of the 1260 then choking the flow with a ball valve?
It would be more flow than i need but i was just thinking i guess |

pump
I had an eheim on my 110T. it replaced a mag. There are 2 main differences. 1 Quieter. 2 Cooler. The tank ran about 2 degrees cooler once I switched. According to the literature (if my memory is right), if you scale it back with ball valves the pump will use less energy and slow down or something so it's not overworking.
I would go eheim no questions. |

That works just fine Aquaman and it gives you more options for running additional equipment off the return pump. I can run the 1262 thru my tank full throttle without any issues. I choose to run a couple of media reactors t'd off of the return line, so that reduces the flow a little. At some point it would be overkill though. So it just all depends on your situation.

+1 on eheim, they are just too quiet and easy to maintain and clean.

Looks like mixed decision to me.
Why is the eheim 3 times as much? are these 3 the same size pumps?
