overskimming?

Is it possible to overskim? I have a 120 reef tank, stocked lightly with LPS, Zoa's, and a few SPS corals. I am running a MY Reef Creations MR-2 driven by a Blue Line 55.

My frogspawn looks like this:

A friend bought one from the same colony from me, and after 2-3 weeks, it looks like this:

As you can see, his colored up nicely. I have checked parameters, and everything is on-track. I am wondering if my skimmer is taking out all the "goods" that will allow my colors to color-up.

If this is the case, should I set my skimmer on a timer to run 12 out of 24 hours? And, would it be better to skim at night or day. I think during the night hours would be nice, in order to keep the heat factor down. By the way, I am running a chiller keeping the temp at 78.

Thanks for any input.

I doubt that your skimmer would have anything to do with it, I would check your lighting, Type of lighting and Watts per gallon may be a factor and or the age and spectrum of your bulbs. It looks like your frogspawn is bleaching to me. It could also be a difference in salinity or alkalinity, I have had too much flow make mine shrink up before. I would vote on the lighting first though. Good luck

How's your flow...Euphyllia's will not do well in high flow.

Water parameters? Ca, Alk, Mg? Don't turn your skimmer off it likely doesn't have anything to do with it.

My frogspawn was skinny and off color like that. Now it is normal. I feed a lot more to the tank, and added a wave maker (Tunze on DIY controller)

If you can target feed it, it will help.

Good luck.
