to use or not filter sock
ok for the last 3 yr's i have used them, no true particular reason other then to catch debris from drain, tired of changing them out every 4 days and having to turn skimmer off for a hr after doing so, for those of you who dont use them, why don't you use them?
my current new system, i havent used one, easier to syphon debris from sump every few weeks then changing socks every few days |

I just like that it polishes the water off. And also catches bigger pieces of trash if something is in the tank.

I use them. Mine clogs every 5-6 days... If I didnt use one, that crap would have stayed in the water column.

i used them for years. i stopped in the last few months because honestly they were a PITA to always deal with. making them, cleaning them, changing them, hoping like hell i had enough to not have to wash them for a few days. yeah i got tired of it. and honestly i dont notice the difference without them. i get a few more bubbles in the sump but they dont make it to the tank, i see that as a small price to pay for an extra few minutes of freedom.
It does help that i have a big ol'honking skimmer though filter socks have their uses, dont get me wrong, but i dont see the need to run one 24/7 on my system.
