Quick Stand Question

My new tank has arrived and the stand. The stand has a moulding around the parimeter that is 1 1/2" tall or above the surface that the tank will rest on.

The tank is a trimless tank that is euro-braced at the top. I was thinking of cutting another piece to place on the top that is 1/2" thickness to raise the tank up so that you will be able to see the sand bed.

Is this a commom practice or should I just drop the tank directly onto the stand and go with a deeper sand bed?

Thanks

It would be fine. My only concern would be keeping the surface proper for the tank. How is it now, just a flat piece of plywood? Most tanks without trim require a full ply sheet under them with at least a 1/2" thick sheet of foam between the tank and the plywood sheet.

Right now, it is just a stand with a Plywood Stained top with the trim all the way around the stand. The trim as stated is 1 1/2" from the surface of the plywood.

Where do I buy the foam that you are talking about? I was going to just sit the tank right on top of the plywood.

Thanks

Home depot, the pink stuff works well. Its insulation for homes. You could probably find a piece that is the thickness you want. If it already has a full plywood surface then I would just throw the foam in there. It will not settle out so if you toss in a .5" thick piece you will get about .5" height increase. The foam helps with any irregularity in the stand surface and keeps pressure points from forming on the tank.
