New tank overflow

Hi all,
Got my 95g rr tank up and running. Im using an Eheim 1260 return pump in sump and skimmer is also in sump. The only minor issue I have is with the built in overflow box. I used the Durso standpipe setup on 1 1/4 drain and 1" return pipe. The issue is that the water in the overflow chamber fluctuates up and down about 3/4 of inch continously.
Is this normal? I did drill a 1/8" hole in the Durso pipe.

sounds like it is getting the right amount of water to create a vortex of water and rush it down then it subsides and builds again. I use a Hofer gurgle buster so I don't really know what to tell you about how to fix it. FWIW I love my overflow and it is super quiet too. If it doesn't work out with what you have now it is easy to switch it up...

I wouldn't worry about the fluctuation if it is quiet. Do you have a valve on your drain line? If so ,you can adjust the height of the water in the overflow by restricting the outflow.

Drill the hole out a bit.

Mine did the same thing with a 1/8 sized hole. Had to go up 3 or 4 sizes to 2 sizes smaller then 1/4.

Thanks for the help all....After posting this, I had done exactly those two things. Added a ball valve to drain because that 1 1/4 inch pipe drains volumes of water. And I went up a size in the durso pipe vent hole.

It is now perfect.

Thanks again..
