MH/T5 question
What is the best 24" MH/T5 combo fixture out there. Looking for a 250 watt fixture.

I settled on the Maristar by sunlight supply, solely because of the price, their reflectors, and its looks.
I didnt like the belize sun for my 36" tank because it was $519 and only came with one 250 watt MH + 2 T5's, while the Maristar is $500 and comes with two 250 MH in the 36" fixture + 2 T5's with their reflectors. It also uses their galaxy MH ballast (highly rated, and on its own cost $230). I don't know about the other lengths, but the Maristar beats the Belize sun hands down in the 36" length.

I hope it never catches on, I like having the oldest tank on here and I don't have to worry about calcification, bio pellets, Vodka dosing, DSBs, Chaetomorpha (I don't even know what that is) Carbonite hardness and all of these other things many people worry about. If I had to think about all of that stuff I would get a stroke. My test kit came in a wooden box and the directions say to keep in a cool chariott. I throw some food in the tank, wave hello to the fish and go out with my wife and have a nice glass of merlot with dinner. Have a great day but most of all, have fun. -PaulB Current Tank Info: 27 Gallon DAS softy/fish reef |

Aquactinics makes a killer mh/t5 fixture. I just ordered the 36". I should receive the fixture by Friday. I will post pics after I set it up. I ordered the 2 x 175 plus 2 x 39, but they come in 250's as well.

Can I get some more details on why you guys like the geissman and sfiilgoi. I'd really like to keep this in the $500 range.
This is for a 24x24x18 marineland cube, so I only need one halide. Looks to me like the Maristar doesn't come in 24" and the 36" on Reefgeek says $685? Why do you like the aquatinics light? thanks for the input folks. |

I see the Maristar on Marine Depot now for $500, but no single halide fixture
Pirhana, Kelvin rating is largely preferance. 10 k a little more yellow, 14K and 20k progressivelt bluer. MY tank will house an anemone, and they seem to prefer 10k range. Looks to me like the Hamilton is the right choice for a 24" tank. |

PM: what is the question? I'm looking at the Hamilton Belize Sun, 250 watt halide, T5 actinic and 2 LEDs. As for the quality, that's what I'm hoping to hear from people on.
Pirahna: I prefer 10k bulbs with t5 actinic supplementation. I'm not a fan of the blue-water craze. I have a gigantea under 10k and it is doing awesome, so I'm kinda partial to it now. |

thank you for that. Looks like a nice fixture, but I'm too stupid for SE, lol. I need a shield. Also doesn't come in 24", and would like something a little more stylish.

coral-lagoon has some pictures of the belize sun on his cube. So far I'm very impress with the fixture, mine is the 48 inch with 2 250 HQI, 2 54 watt T5 and 9 leds.

thank you ariel. Coral-lagoons light does look awesome. May I ask where you got yours? Did you go magnetic or electronic ballast?

I use the aquamedic hqi only on FW. It's a very quality product. I have 3 of their oceanlights and one spacelight ex. My first one replaced a sunpod and was a huge upgrade in lighting. Aquamedics use a quality ballast and they also mount the t5 ballast externally to keep the weight and heat down in the fixture itself. I will be buying a spacelight ex w/t5's if the used maristar fixture at my LFS can't be had for a good deal.
