water pump on wet/dry filter pumping cloud of air into tank

Hello everyone. well i had marine tank setup a couple years back, but had to dismante it when i joined the military. now im back and am having trouble setting my aquarium back up again. my pump is pumping faster then the water from the overfill can get down.

my pump is a CATALINA CA-2200 AQUA PUMP TRIPLE VENTURI AQUARIUM Pump like this one right here .

my overfill is not much different then this one

is my pump too strong? or my overfill too small?

You can control the pump by adding a ball valve on the return line between the pump and the display tank.

also make sure to put a check valve on the return line, or make sure you have enough room in your sump that the water wont overflow when you turn your return pump off
