I'm tired of bland greenish lr Tank set up in March this year, cycled in two weeks. I know I know...patience is a virtue

That green rock looks to be green due to hair algae to me...

I see zero hair algae but the pics are not zoomed enough to tell if there is (except there is no hair algae problem). seeing the pump and heater are growing coraline it shouldn't be long if you keep ca, mg and alk up and stable (or perhaps never, my coralline covers the bottom but doesn't grow well on the live rock or other glass panels).

I really don't think it's algae. There was the discussion before that it could be the beginning of coralline...but it's not turning
Here are some closer pictures that I just took: W/flash: W/out flash: Must be enough calcium. Haven't tested for awhile, but the snail is growing...lol Yes this is algae on the snail...I guess.

I don't necessarily want all the rock covered in coraline b/c I want it to be able to breathe still. Some coraline and some nice brown would be good

Did a calc and Alk test.
Calc was a bit low at 340 according to Hagen test. I'm due for a water change w/Reef Crystals so I'm sure that should come back up. Dkh was 7.7 so that was fine. (Salifert test.)

You can scrap some coraline algea off your rocks that have it on it and place the scrapings in the tank with the powerhead on to help spread your pores around faster. I would recommend turning off your pump in your sump if you have one for about 20 min to let all the spores settle without going into your sump.
Once you have your calcium up where it should be (about 400-450) and you put the scrapings in your DT, it will start going quickly. |
