Failed pump time for upgrade...

Hey so my pump is completly shot and If I am to buy a new one id like to know that im getting a good one...my first question is how can I be sure that Im maxing out my systems potential? I have 1-1/4 inch drains and the pump will be suppling water at a head hight of about 4 feet...so whats a good brand and recomended gph? was thinking of overshooting on the gph and using a ball valve to regualte flow...is this not a good Idea i wouldnt imagine that holding the pump back would be but thats why Im asking you guys thanks....also after having the nightmare of using vinyl tubing I will be changing to pvc is there a sort of quick dissconect for the intake and outlet for quick pump servicing? thanks again

Humm im not too sure how big of a pump you can put on those little 1 1/4 inch drains. You really cant over do it. they cant drain but so fast. Now if you put some 3" drains on there you could put a big dart on there and pump about 2500-3500 GPH.
It all depends on your tank size, which i didn;t see you mention.
I've got two 3" drains on my Glass-Holes.com overflow on a 180 gallon

The quick disconnects are called union's, they work great.

Is the a return from your sump? Are you sure you want to max that out? I shoot for around 3-5 x tank turnover on my sump.
