My favorite shop is that fish place in Lancaster which is about 30 minutes drive for me. I 'could' go to petco by my house but I don't like it. Prices are definitley higher than that fish place.

My favorite fish shop is about an hour away, so I like to make a day of it when I do find the time to go.

I'm 100 miles West of Chicago, 60 miles East of Quad Cities, and 50 miles North of Peoria. Tough out in the middle of Illinois! A couple of places aboot 25 miles away. One's new and very promising, Reynold's Corals in LaSalle.

Check out Aquatic Environments next time you're in the QC. That's where I go.

I thought about going to BNARC's fall fest, but didn't have all the time that day to make the trip.

If I plan on spending big money I make a 6 hour drive to Preuss in lansing. Hands down best store I have ever been to. Definitely worth the drive.

About a 4 minute bike ride to my fav, and there are about 30 shops in a 50 mile radius here so it all depends on what i want to get.

I drive about 45 minutes, mainly b/c (1) I don't know of any other solid LFS in my area that deal with salt water & coral species and (2) the store has been there for 48 years, so I trust it a little bit.

Side question: Is there a thread/post for retailers in different area's on this board?

Known Adam since the fire at the original store. Stop in every time I cross the river! Great livestock always. Where are you, Butterz?

I think that's where the new fellow in LaSalle said he gets a lot of his livestock from. LMK next time you go, I'm not that far from you. And check out Reynolds in LaSalle, his wife always has nice seahorses as well.

I am so lucky, here in orange county I have few LFS I can visit in less than 30 minutes drive. I can see myself driving up to two hours if I really want to get something special.

Now I don't feel bad about the 3 hours each way.

it's a little over an hour to two of the better ones in my area, with another okay one just down the road from them.

I drive right over to my computer and get what I need online. I love to support my local businesses, but the difference in price is too much to take, and as far as advice goes, the advice I get here and on other forums is better than all but a couple LFS I've ever been to.

I understand where you are coming from. I've been to the Emporium once on a trip to see a friend. They were kind of trying, but they put all the fish way in the back. Plus, they didn't even have hardly any dry goods at the time. Like Salt.

Sea of Marvels is a little ways from you, but you have to barter with Hung just to get a decent deal with him.

Pet's Play house let their tanks and coral go pretty bad last time I've been there. Seemed like every tank had dozens of aptasia.
