Different background ideas

Does anyone have a tank background other than the usual blue or black? There's nothing wrong with those colors, of course, but I'm wondering if there is another color that might look more realistic. Or maybe create a different perspective of depth. What color does someone diving on a reef see when they stare into open space?

It would be neat to try to recreate a background like this, but I don't have the skill:

I had a rock cave background for a while. It fit in well with my aquascaping back then.

Check out this concept, if you haven't already. I need to cook my rocks and start over and I think I'll take this opportunity to try this.

Good luck.

I`m going to try and add depth like museum dioramas(I think that`s what they`re called). I left some room behind tank for expanded background, and maybe place some dry rock, coral for extra depth.

That sounds interesting, tranto1 - no pics? Was it like a poster you attached to the back glass?

Yes, I've seen that concept, beanoil. It looks neat, but I will have limited real estate. Also, I'm wondering how it might affect flow, and I thought I came across a thread where someones crabs were picking away bits of foam while trying to eat algae...

I've never heard of that idea before! Have you seen any other examples of that with reef tanks? I wonder if reflections in the glass would make it hard to see?
