What power head to puch water to sump?
Hi!!!
I'm new to the hobby and setting up a 75g acrylic with center overflow and 32x16x16 sump. Two questions: Anyone know where I can get something to store water in that is relatively tall, like a trash can? I'm having a hard time finding something appropriate. Second and more importantly: I'm going to have these two storage units, using two float valves, my RO/DI (bought from AWI, who have great customer service by the way) flowing into the initial container, and then from that one into another equally large container (Prob 30 gallons or so). I'll be mixing slat water in the second container. I need a powerhead for each container. One for the initial fresh water for top offs and for fresh water changes in my planted tank A second for circulating salt mix and then pumping it for water changes to my salt water tank. I don't need them to do anything fancy. Just circulate and be able to push the water to my tanks which are about 25 feet away and 50 feet away on the SAME level of the home just in a different room. I don't need them to be amazingly special or super fast. Just adequate So can anyone recommend a power head that will handle that? I searched around and didn't find a thread that addressed this. Thanks much! |

As far as storage goes - many people use rubbermaid Brute trashcans.
For the powerhead - maybe a maxijet? I use a submersible sump pump for mine, but it is only in the water long enough to move it. I use that because the price is right (~$75) and it handles head pressure well - one of my tanks is one the main floor, the other (and the fish room) are in the basement

+1 on the Brutes. I think a Maxijet is too small.. Maybe a Mag7 would be more appropriate for transfering the water. A Maxijet is fine for mixing sw.

Thanks guys, I looked at the brutes and they are cool but does anyone know of anything thinner out there? I have more vertical space than horizontal so something slim would be good.
