p.s. make sure to keep them away from water. They are not sealed up and just a little water will kill them. Trust me I know |

the leds are actually quite different in those two. The MD leds are like 5 little cluster of "bulbs" that are all pointed into the center led. looks like this....
//I\\ ---the slashes are two bulbs on each side...and the "I" is the center bulb wich is strait. The Fishbowl leds are the flat square leds. [O][O][O] ---like this... and both are in tubes. I can only speak for the FB leds, they are great...and the simple timer is all you need with them. anything more is kind of overkill since the moon LEDs don't actually do anything for our corals. The use of the lunar cycle is a neat feature...But after a few months of it I decided to NOT use it and just pick a pleasing light level to view my tank at night with. The reason why is because my tank is in my bedroom and I acutally LIKE the blue light at night for seeing where I'm walking when I get up to let my dogs in and out (and to pee myself). So when the lunar cycle is at it's peak, the room is BLACK...and there is nothing to see anymore. So I finally just picked a nice level to see things at. For a 48" tank...2 would be plenty. I think it actually says that each light has a good spread over 24". If you want the lunar cycle you much keep it on all day...and no it's not going to waste much electricity, and no it's not even going to be "visible" when the lights are on durring the day. And the easy part is that with them on all day...you never need to worry about the timer situation. For my set up I just leave them on 24/7 anyways and I don't use the lunar cycle anymore. If you WANT you can set the desired level and then put them on a timer...but that's if you just insist on having them off durring the day. But it will not cycle properly if the timer turns them off all day...they must be left on to cycle. As far as being water tight...Mine are 100% sealed. I used to just have them held to the rim of the tank with tape...and so occasionally they would drop off and be swimming all day till I got back from work...and remember, they were ON. So I personally think they are great for the reason alone. But I'm sure others have had different experience. But over all I like the blue color they give off and Would highly reccommend them. good luck. dave

I tried to order the moon computer late spring 2008, James finally contacted me in July saying soon soon soon..
His eventual response 09/26/08 was : "No its more like a logistical problem on our end. We are an the process of getting them made, but I don't have an ETA for you. One issue is we are doing a re-design to make the manufacturing easier as well as improving the design from a user standpoint. Many people have been asking and we are definitely working on it. I will keep you informed." They have never had the computer in stock for the 18 months I've been looking for it. I made my own from some inexpensive parts, works ok but am looking to upgrade to a Reefkeeper anyway for improved overall system control, they can do lunar cycling. |
