sump refugium?

setting up a 15 gal. sump/refugium spliting it so 8 gal is refugium other half is for return so i have enough for daily evap and a little wiggle room .was wondering if a bubble trap is needed? and how deep of a sand bed i should run in it . thanks for any help

depends how much your water is agitated when it enters the sump. Think about how to reduce the agitation when the water enters your sump. How big is your tank? Your sump should be 1/3 of your tank size for you to get the full benefit.

the main tank is 29 gallons.so if i went ruffly 10 on the ref. and 5gallons on the return side i should be fine?

I would switch this around. 1/3rd for the fuge and 2/3rd for the return. You just don't need that much fuge on that size DT. I like having room for all or most of the gear in the sump, also. FWIW.....

Current Tank Info: 120RR AGA mixed. 12g CPR FOWLR and 6g CPR softie.
