Thin grass-like algae
My 180 has been set up for about 6 weeks now. The live rock that is highest in the tank has started growing long, thin, green threads with an air bubble on the end of each strand. It seems to be spreading. Noone in the tank is eatting it. (not many fish yet) Should it be removed and if so how? I keep hearing about algae blooms and how problematic they can be so I want to avoid a problem if possible.
Thanks! |

You have hair algae. It is the bane of saltwater tanks. Remove as much as you can, get a mexican turbo snail and perhaps some red leg hermits (it takes a lot of them to do anything, so read up on them) reduce the time your light is on, make sure your nitrates and phosphates are near 0, use RO water for make up.
