Filtration.

I am in the process of planning a new tank.

I have been thinking about setting up a 20 Gal(uk) tank, and having algea growing in this tank.

Also within this tank, having undergravel filtration(reverse flow).

Any thoughts about this?

Few people still use the UG setup now, but it is not unworkable. Fish has been kept sucessfully with this setup.

But why?

A thin layer of substrate without UG is not bad if done right.

The tank i am planning is going to 186 Gal(uk), i will then have my sump underneath the tank.

At the side i am going to put this small tank, and just a thought for increased filtration. This tank will be present, so i thought, why not get as much out of it as possible.

What is your objective for increased filtration?

If you want a lot of nitrfication and not much denitrification, UG may be good.

Live Rock is an advancement in filtration in that there is better comprehensive microbial balance.

I am going to have 130Kilo of LR in the main tank.

This was jst an after thought on increasing the surface area for bacteria to grow.

What does the "doble sump concept" mean?

Do you mean double?

For the rest of the filtration, i was going to have the flow from the tank pouring onto bioballs, then the next chamber having my skimmer, having two baffles leading into my last chamber. This chamber will house the pump for my UV filter, phosphate reactor and my return pump. The return line to the tank will have a ecoaqualizer.

I plan to have a pump in the chamber housing the skimmer feeding the extra tank. This secondary tank will then run into the chamber housing the return pump.

What about using this tank for a deep sand bed?
