What to put in the fuge

I thought I would send this out to get some feedback. My tank (85g) is close to running. The salt was added today. Next step is to add the sand/liverock.

I wanted to get people's opinoins on what should go in the fuge area besides the sand and maybe a piece of live rock. Is there any inverts that would do well in that area?

The refugium is a 30g with split into 3 compartments. Let me know if you need more details.

Thanks in advance,
Justin

you need to cycle your tank before adding anything at all to this tank you are going to have about a 6 to 8 weeks to think about what you want before your tank finishs cycling.

Sorry I wasn't clear. Yeah, I am in no hurry to add anything to the tank till it cycles. Just trying to get the idea generation going.

I would not add sand, it just makes cleaning your sump harder to do, everytime you move anything in the sump, you can kick up the sand anfd your return pump will blow it back into your display tank. Lots of people will add cheato to assist in removing phosphates and it will help you grow a lot of pods

I'd recommend adding chaeto lie goodtimes2 mentioned. Put a light over it and it will grow like crazy. You'll just have to pull chaeto out to throw away from time to time as it will grow like a weed. Have patience and good luck!

Thanks for the tips, since I am not familiar with cheato, is that something you can get at your LFS?

You can get chaeto from your LFS, or better yet, check a local reefing section for your area and there are always folks looking to give away chaeto for free when they prune theirs back.

+1 on no sand in the fuge.

IMO its much better to have a bare bottom which will allow you to easily vacuum the detritus out when you do a water change.
