Power heads
I have a k3 & a k4 in my 75g with fine sand. I can only run the k3 because everytime I turn them both on, the tank gets extremely cloudy. I have tried numerous different placements and nothing seems to work. I have the k3 on one side in the middle pointing up at the surface and the k4 is on top in the back corner on the opposite side, pointing towards the center, slightly to the top.
Anybody have any suggestions? I was thinking of getting some larger grain sand at putting a thin layer on top of the sugar sand. I am at my wits end. |

I run a modded K3 (approx 2,500 gph) and a Modded MJ 1220 (approx 2,000 gph) in my 54 gal corner and don’t have a problem with sand storms. I also do not use the super fine sand so that may be your problem. Another possible cause may be the infrastructure/aquascaping of your tank. Mine is broken up quite a bit so the flow gets diffused significantly.

This is what my aquascape looks like. I switched around the 2 power heads, thinking that might make a difference. But it didn't.
When they are both one, the sand in the middle of the front of the tank is getting pushed to both sides. So I can't figureout how to redirect the flow so it doesn't carry the sand in that area away. |

Try putting one of your powerheads on the back wall aiming fwd. The you can adjust accordingly for more flow or less via moving the head up towards the surface or lower.

Thanks! This seemed to have helped immensely! Still kicked up a lil bit of sand but nowhere near what it was doing before. I really appreciate it Mopar Reefer

Mine blew around initially as well, I just put some rubble from my live rock where the sand was blowing all the time. As your tank matures this happens less frequently since everything settles. The same powerheads that blew sand 2 years ago now do not in the same exact place
