These have pretty much just suddenly appeared on my rocks, there are two of them, they do not move. Any ideas as to what they are?

that's exactly what it looks like. not sure if it's some sort of invert or maybe an egg sack from my clown pair. I found another tiny one growing on the rocks too.

Aren't sponges difficult to care for? I thought they had to have perfect water params to survive and I have a horrible HA problem that i can't get rid of, all params test fine but something is wrong since this HA has taken over. If it is a sponge, and it's growing out of nowhere, does that maybe mean my water params are ok? how do i care for them?

i don't mind the sponge, i'm just curious as to what is supporting their growth, is my water too nutrient rich? maybe?

I think that could be the case, but I could be wrong I have heard in the past that they do tend to flourish in nutrient rich environments...

Umm... It sounds to me like you need to invest in some test kits!

Sponges won't solve a nutrient problem but they are never bad thing, its just another form of diversified life in your tank.

Having sponges doesn't mean you have too much nutrients necessarily. It just means you have enough nutrients to support the sponges.

I do have test kits, all params are fine, wasn't sure if there was something in particular i should test for that would cause these sponges, (or HA) to grow besides nitrate and phosphate.

in my experience my HA was keeping all my nutrient levels at bay...my over feeding and malfunctioning skimmer...once i got those in check and kept the water cleaner the hair went away along with the red slime. the hair algae uses up all the nutrients that they can and you get false readings off the tests because the plants are taking them all in

What kind of water are you using? Did you test for silicates? Sponges like silicate. The sponge in your picture is harmless, and as your tank ages you will probably find more.

+1 ^^^ I like sponges and I do everything I can to get them to grow in my system. I think they add to the biodiversity, and also add some nice contrasting splashes of color in a reef tank. Here are some of my sponges:
