ok so i had a 72 gallon bow frnt with a Rena XP3 and and 8 bulb T5 fixture. I to had the same problem with the little bubbles. It would come and go though, wasnt cyano, no red just bubbles. I found that it was from the HOB skimmer. When i would turn it off they would go away. Just my .02

I would take the canister offline and clean it for storage or install it on a qt system. You do not need it on the display tank. It is best to just eliminate it from the equation.

I do agree with some of the others that it is caused by nutrients.

How often do you change out phosban?

I notice an algae clip on the glass. Make sure to only feed a small amount of nori and remove the left overs before it rots in the tank. That stuff is pure phosphates =]. A lot of people are guilty of leaving it in the tank to rot.

If there are sponges all over the place remove them or clean them well.

Vacuum the sand bed or siphon out the algae on the sand bed with regular water changes.

Run a scraper down the sides of the aquarium and siphon the algae out as you go. Manual removal, frequent GFO changes, good skimmer production, and reducing light will make a huge difference in time.

i thought it wasnt wise to vacuum out the sand bed because it takes out valuable bacteria and organisms beneficial to the tank?
