Thinking about frogspawn!
I was thinking about adding frogspawn to my 55gal reef. I wanted to know if these lights will do good to this coral.
4x54W T5's, 48'' tank. Wanted to know if its enough light. I know they require Medium to High lights but dont know what exactly is "medium". Thanks. |

Your lighting is fine.
Just be sure your testing your CA and Alk levels and maintain them at or above natural saltwater levels.

You shouldn't have a problem with that lighting, just remember to leave some space between it and other corals....

You can often find local hobbyists with colonies they might be willing to frag for you. This coral does very well in aquaria - looks great too.

Well i went to my LFS today, i saw a piece probable around 3-5 inches. It was $79. Are they really that pricey?
How fast do they grow? |

See if you can find a fellow reefer to frag you a piece.Very hardy ,great addtion to a reef tank.Give it the right conditions(For me: med light-enough flow to toss the polyps around)it will grow pretty big.Shop around.

Mine is under 4x54 T5's and has added 3 heads in the last 7 months. Find a local willing to frag theirs. I got 5 heads from a fellow reefer for $35 and see deals like that fairly often.

A head is about an inch to an inch and half wide when the flesh is retracted, the tentacles extending from it might extend up 3" in diameter depending on how fleshy the specimen is. That last picture looks like maybe 4-5 heads.
Here's a side picture of a hammer coral which is extremely similar to the frogspawn. You can see the individual skeletal branches each make up a head. The tentacles grow out of the head with a mouth hidden in the center. At my local fish store I wouldn't expect to pay much more than $15 a head.
