Moderate flow and low at first. See how it does and go from there. Make sure to give it a wide birth.

I've had one for close to 6 years now and it hardly ever puts its sweepers out. Once in a while it might put out one or two - that is it. I have seen others that extend a ton of them about 6-8 inches. Not sure why mine never does (don't know if its a curse or blessing). They do look cool when they extend!

The sweepers come out at night for the most part. I'll occasionally see a couple during the day but at night it looks like a torch coral.

Its not necessary to feed the coral. But if you want to the best time is in the evening after the lights of the day---halides or 10,00k's go off. This signals alot of coral to extend their polyps
Get some frozen cylopeeze, turn off the main pumps, but keep on the power heads and let them feed for 45 min.

Quite often - its amazing to me what you see when the lights are off. It's like a whole new world! (Usually 2-3 hours after the actinics go out). It might have something to do with my flow? They are in a fairly brisk flow area so maybe they either don't feel the need or don't dare I've had this coral for 6 years now and its one of my favorites.

Mine is about 6-7 inches. Careful cause it will grow onto other base rock that neighbors it and you might not want it to. I had to break mine off and covered the "contaminated" area with a rock to kill off the new growth. It can grow pretty fast.
To be honest, right now my tank isn't doing all that well. I did have a major die off a few months ago due to ALK issues. I lost quite a few corals - but my galaxy is hanging in there. I was ready to call it quits but got my head back in the game! |
