28 Gal Nano Cube refugium Help
I am considering setting up a hang on the back (CPR type) refugium for my 28 gallon nano cube LED. Is there a simple way to set this up, or should I consider an alternative route? I like the HOB refugium because it does not require much space, and it simply hangs. I do have some reservations with this though, because if my power goes out I do not want to have a house full of water. This may not be the case, as its just probably my lack of knowledge of them and how they function. Any help or tips?

I built my own sump/refugium that sits directly behind my JBJ 28 HQI. I use two syphon tubes to pull water from the JBJ's back compartments into the sump and a return pump that first goes through my chiller and then to a new return I added in the DT portion of the tank.

The chamber in the back of the nano cube should work well as a fuge. They are designed to work as a unit without an external sump. In setting up an external fuge, you just need to be sure there is enough empty space in there to accomodate any water when the power is off. Drilling an overflow hole is the preferred method but an overflow box that siphons is an alternative. You just have to make sure the siphon will break before the fuge overflows. It's best to test outside or be really quick with the power switch and towels inside.

first off, thanks for the replies. So If I use the build in fuge, then I would just need to add some sort of light to sustain the life or cheato (i.e. at night)?

Yes, there's likely several nano mod threads in the nano forum. My Oceanic 8g gets enough teflected light in the back chamber to grow chaeto without supplemental light. You may just need some reflector material over the back chamber.

Check the nano forum or the diy forum, many members have converted one of the chambers to a fuge with great success.
